Energy Law

The implementation of Republic Act No. 9136 or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 (“EPIRA”) paved the way for the restructuring of the Philippine energy industry, the privatization of the assets of the National Power Corporation, and the transformation of the competitive landscape of the power industry.

Since the implementation of the EPIRA, the Firm’s lawyers have been involved in major energy projects in the country as counsels to developers or individual sponsors, to general or specialist contractors, or the lenders to the project. These major energy projects contributed to the broadening of the ownership base of the power generation sector, consistent with the policy under the EPIRA. With our collective experience, we are in a position to counsel our clients on the applicable regulatory regimes for power generation, transmission, and distribution sectors.

The Firm’s lawyers are also involved in assisting clients in the renewable energy generation industry in enforcing fiscal incentives granted by Republic Act No. 9513, otherwise known as the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
